Settle is dedicated to making the everyday beautiful for your kitchen and home, made to become cherished family heirlooms. Each piece is hand thrown and glazed with care.
What advice would you offer to other artists looking to grow their business?
This is a tough business to get into but it is fulfilling. You need to have determination and drive. Focus your creativity as best you can, and concentrate on making good work! But also always stay open to learning something new!
What can you share about your creative process?
I typically will start in my studio with an idea of something I need in my own kitchen or home and move from there. I'll make several iterations on an idea, and flesh it out. It usually will take me about a year to bring an object to market!
What inspires you? What factors have played roles in the development of your artistic style?
I love the colors of the West Texas Desert so I tend to pull my color inspo from there. Most of the work I offer are functional items that we tend to take for granted in our day to day lives. I believe it's important to have beauty in those small spaces.
Let’s start from the beginning! Tell us a little about the journey that led you to where you are now.
I took my first ceramics class in college in 2008. I fell in love with it and made it a minor so I could have 24/7 access to the studio. I ended up working in several studios as an assistant before I opened Settle in 2015. It grew slowly. I grew my collection of works and colorways very thoughtfully. Its all been a labor love and I am glad I get to make this work everyday!
